Goldie Ruth Lanning, 97, passed away on October 18, 2024, in Pasco, WA. She was the fifth of six children born to Royal C. Tolman and Goldie Adams Tolman on March 28, 1927, in Murtaugh, Idaho. She was known as Ruth throughout her life.

Most of Ruth's early life was spent in Murtaugh and Twin Falls, ID. Her childhood memories include doing chores on the family farm such as feeding the cows, pigs, and chickens, gathering apples, and canning fresh fruits and vegetables. Ruth was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a woman of strong faith, good moral principles, and an example to others.

Ruth graduated from Twin Falls High School in 1945 and attended Brigham Young University. She married Willard J. Lanning on July 19, 1950, in the LDS Idaho Falls temple. They were married for over 60 years prior to his passing. They loved dancing to the music of the Big Band Era, league bowling, and traveling. Their favorite travel destinations included California, Arizona, Hawaii, and Europe.

Ruth was known for her fun-loving spirit, laughter, work ethic, and service to others. She was an excellent homemaker who enjoyed baking her own bread and making candies, cookies, and pies. She found joy in sewing, making chocolates, and preserving fruits and vegetables. She lovingly cared for her yard, garden, flowers, and creating a warm and welcoming home. For many years, she worked tirelessly on the family farms thinning and weeding sugar beet fields and driving a beet truck during harvest.

As a young adult, Ruth worked at a dress shop and for Singer Sewing Machine, but she was most fondly remembered as the neighborhood "Avon Lady" for over 30 years. Ruth served in many church callings in the Sunday School, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations and later as a missionary in the local LDS Employment Center. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was deeply loved by many and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her six children: Ernest (Zay) Lanning, Rodney (Diane) Lanning, Mark (Brenda) Lanning, Craig (Bonnie) Lanning, Carol (Evan) Hansen, and Sue (Arvil) Anderson, 25 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the LDS Pasco Stake Center at 2004 N. Road 24 at 1:00 p.m. with a viewing at noon. The graveside service and interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Twin Falls, ID on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 10:00 a.m.
