Gloria Slipp, 89 of Kennewick, WA was called to heaven on October 2, 2021. Gloria was born on October 10, 1931, to Michael and Natalie Chmelyk in Mundare, Alberta, Canada. She was the 2nd of 7 children. She was raised on a farm near the small Ukrainian settlement of Mundare. Gloria emigrated to the United States with her childhood friend, Genia, at the age of 24. They left their country and culture with a bus ticket, a suitcase, and a sense of adventure. They arrived in Spokane, WA where she took a position as a Reservationist at the The Davenport Hotel. It was there that she met her husband, Walter Slipp. They were married for 59 years and had 2 children, Cathy, and Casey. Gloria became a proud citizen of the United States in 1966. Her love of American History was inspired during the citizenship process, and it was always a favorite subject of hers. However, she never forgot her Ukrainian roots. She passed along stories, customs and favorite recipes to her daughter and granddaughter. Gloria was dedicated to her family. Her quiet strength and unconditional love and support for her family was unshakable. She faced the challenges life sent her way with dignity and fearlessness. Her curiosity and tenacity helped her in supporting Casey, an individual with Williams Syndrome, experience life to the fullest. She embraced and shared the joy of those with different abilities. Her positive, kind, and caring nature has touched many beyond her own family. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and 5 of her siblings, and her husband, Walter. She is survived by her brother, Victor Chmelyk and his wife Louella; her daughter, Cathy and her husband Gary Pipes, their children Jared and Bailey, and her dear son, Casey. Graveside services will be Friday, October 8 at 2pm at Riverview Heights Cemetery.
