Obituary

Glenna Burke Knoll, Loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend has left this earth peacefully in her sleep September 27, 2008. She lived a long and full life. Glenna was born May 13, 1924, the third child of Arthur and Florence Burke in Cavalier, North Dakota. She was a dedicated and caring nurse at Deaconess Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It was there, in the fall of 1946, that she met the love of her life, Clem. They married in September of 1947. After Clem graduated from the University of North Dakota the young couple started moving. Glenna gave birth to four children Tom, Bob, Sue, and Richard while living in North Dakota and then the family moved to California. After a few years in California, Glenna had another son Don. The family then moved to Damascus, Maryland where Glenna had her fifth son Andrew. They lived in Maryland for several more years before making their final move to Kennewick, Washington. Clem retired in 1980 and the two became snowbirds, traveling from Washington to Arizona for several years. Glenna was the heart of her family and will always be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor. Glenna loved the outdoors and camping. She loved the colors during the changes of season. Many a trip was made up to the mountains to see the snow melting. She also loved the ocean. She loved birds, dragonflies, and butterflies. Her backyard was a tribute to all three. She enjoyed playing cards with anyone who would sit down with her. There was always a puzzle on the table being worked on or a game being played with a grandchild. The grandchildren will remember the candy jars that were hidden all over the house and her insistence that they were there for them. The grandma who's giggle was contagious when she'd get started. She had a wonderful ability to connect with each grandchild no matter the age or attitude! Glenna is survived by her husband of 61 years Clement Knoll, her sisters Bette Walt Ault and Marion Gus Sagert.
