Obituary

Gerald Oakley Hughes, 64, of Kennewick, WA, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016 at his home surrounded by loved ones. Gerald was born March 31, 1952 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to James and Anna Hughes. He attended Walla Walla Valley Academy. On September 21, 1975 he married his loving wife Teri in Dayton, WA. Gerald loved the open road. His career as a truck driver led 'Masher' to his sweetheart 'Blondie.' Gerald loved hiking, cycling, riding his Harley on adventures with the Turtles, and vacationing to Hawaii. Gerald is survived by his children, Chad and his wife Rachel, Heidi, and Jaime and her husband Corey; his wife Teri of nearly 41 years; grandchildren Jonathan, Diamond, Anne, Trevor, Grant, Chad, Audrie, Cole, and Josie; like a grandfather to Shandra and Justin; siblings and in-laws James and Renee Hughes, Ethel Hughes, Charles and Elly Hughes, Pauline Conforth, Lucy and Jim Ondo, Anna and Ethan Boardman, Patty Medley, Linda Ashworth, and John and Sheri Crosby; pets Buster, JJ, Baby, and Billie Jean; and many family and friends. Gerald is preceded in death by parents James and Anna Hughes, brother in-law Andrew Conforth, nephew Kurtis Johnson, and grandson Zade Smallwood. There will be a graveside service at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick, WA 99338 on Thursday September 8 at 11am officiated by Dan Biehl. Immediately following there will be a Celebration of Life at 5300 West 25th Avenue, Kennewick, WA 99338. Donations can be made to the Tri-City Union Gospel Mission. A good man with a ready laugh, free as a bird.
