George W. Swisher, 89, went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2006. He was born in St. Maries, Idaho on August 3, 1916. After high school, he attended the University of Idaho, where he graduated with a degree in business. Returning to St. Maries he met and married Virginia Sherwood. In 1940 his Idaho National Guard unit was federalized and he completed two combat tours of duty in New Guinea, New Britain and the Philippines. He was released from active duty as a Major at the end of World War II. After the war, he worked for the St. Maries Lumber Company before moving in 1956 to Connell, Washington, where he was an oil distributor. He and Virginia moved to Pasco in 1965, and George worked for Seattle First National Bank until his retirement. He and Virginia lived in Pasco until 2003 before moving to the Manor at Canyon Lakes, where they enjoyed assisted care. Early this year they moved back to Pasco to reside at ?From The Heart? adult family home, where George was lovingly cared for until his death. George so enjoyed his family, whether he was camping in Idaho, playing cribbage or driving Virginia about the Tri-Cities. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Lulu and George Swisher; his brother, Bob Swisher; and special cousin, Mary Ethel Stickney. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia; his daughter, Luada, of Wishram, Washington; his son, Bob, and his wife, Nilea; and their children, Kevin and Kylie; as well as several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Pasco First Christian Church, 1524 West Marie on Friday, May 19, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, 2108 West Entiat Avenue, Kennewick, WA 99336.
