George was born in Gooding, Idaho to George A and Anna Sharpe Best on September 30, 1922 and passed peacefully in his home August 23, 2018. He was raised in several small Idaho towns, graduating from high school in Elk City, May 1941. November 1942 George joined the Navy. He served in WWII at Pearl Harbor and as a cook at Tripler Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii. In 1948, he met and married Adeline Mitchell. They had two sons, Keith and Kenny and settled in Kennewick. George worked construction as a crane operator and joined Local 302/370 in April 1950. he worked at the Hanford Site, various dams and other projects throughout the state – even traveling to Kuwait. Adeline passed away in 1977 and in 1979, George's daughter-in-law, Donna, introduced him to Dolly Sartain. A new chapter in his life began. They were married November 1979 and George embraced Dolly's adult daughters, Kuki and Danette, as his own. After they both retired, they became snowbirds to Parker, Arizona where they made many special friends that they considered family. George loved to hunt, fish, garden, peach pie and happy hour. One of his proudest accomplishments was obtaining his private pilots license in 1951. George is survived by his wife, Dolly; brother, Don Best; children, Keith Best, Ken and Kathy Best, Kuki Benson and Danette and John Dyes. Grandchildren; Tyson, Nicole, Jared, Amber, Danny, David, Derek, Adam and Kelly. Nineteen great grandchildren and his beloved, faithful companion, Bella. He was preceded in death by wife, Adeline; sister, Florence; daughter-in-law, Donna and great granddaughter, Britney. We would like to thank Heather, Robbie, Tima and great granddaughter, Christina for their help that enabled George to live at home. Graveside services will be Saturday, September 15 at 2:00 pm at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. One final high five and fist bump Big Papa George! Love Lukas and Emilie
