Obituary

House in Kennewick, Washington. Gene was born in Pasco, Washington at Lourdes Hospital on March 24, 1937. He attended college at CWSC (CWU) for a year after graduating high school. He married his high school sweetheart, Edna Deines on July 20, 1957 and they recently celebrated 60 years of marriage. Gene was a truck driver for Tri-City Oil Company for 41 years before retiring in 1998. Gene loved to spend vacations camping with his family. There was also an annual trip to Lincoln City, Oregon for years. Gene did beautiful counted cross stitch in his spare time. He often entered his work in the Fair and won numerous ribbons. He commemorated the marriages of his daughters and grandchildren and the births of each of the great granddaughters with personalized cross stitch works. Gene was a handyman and could build or fix anything. If something was broken, we all would say, "Take it to grandpa, he can fix it." Gene is preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife, Edna. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Oliver. His children are Robin (Jim) Ward of Finley, and Linda (Bill) Gwinn of Kennewick. His grandchildren are Kimberly (Colin) Bates, Derek Ward, and Emily (Dakota)Tripp all of Kennewick, Karli (Brandon) Teagle of Finley, and Kevin (Jess) Gwinn of Sitka, Alaska. He has 5 great granddaughters: Savannah, Olivia, and Penelope Bates and Ava and Audrey Teagle. He is also survived by brother and sisters-in-laws and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Walt Crayne (Gene's friend since Kindergarten) for spending quality time with Gene every day. They would also like to thank the kind and caring staff at Hospice House, Dr. Khieran, Dr. Khouri, and Dr. Kohan for taking such good care of Gene. Graveside services will be held Monday, August 28, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at Riverview Heights Cemetery, 1200 S. Olympia St., Kennewick.
