Gail Christine Mueller Riddell, 84, passed away at her home in Kennewick, Washington, on Friday, June 10th, 2022. Gail was born on January 21st, 1938, in Pasco, Washington, to D. Lois Bailie and B. Amon Mueller. At a very young age, the Mueller family moved into the "big house" attached to the funeral home on First Avenue. She and her three brothers often had to be reminded to quit running around or be quiet because a grieving family was at the home. Gail graduated from Kennewick High School in 1956. She loved her time as a Lion, and for many years a group of her classmates would meet for lunch every month. She spoke fondly of the people she grew up with, and when one of them would pass away, she would share with her co-workers all about the person and what great people they were. Gail was a living history book of the old Kennewick families. After graduating, she attended Whitworth College in Spokane. She worked various jobs as a young adult, including a secretary at Battelle, a waitress in Hawaii, and a flight attendant and a bookkeeper for Mueller Funeral Home. She married Michael Riddell in Las Vegas in 1970. When she was expecting her son, Chad, she moved back to Kennewick to be closer to family and to work in the family business. Gail's greatest joy and love was her son Chad. She enjoyed traveling to Cannon Beach and watching Chad play golf. She was Chad's biggest fan and supporter. Family meant everything to Gail. She took care of many elderly widowed aunts and other family members, often caring for all of their personal affairs as they neared death. She kept track of everyone and worked hard to keep the family connected. She was also the self-appointed family dishwasher at all of our family gatherings. Gail loved to roller skate and dance. In her 60s, she danced with the Silver Steppers dance group. Working in a male-dominated profession, Gail broke the glass ceiling and paved the way for future generations of women funeral home owners. She was often seen comforting the bereaved one minute and the next minute dealing with vendors. She could be tough as nails and sweet as honey. Gail continued working nearly every day until March of 2020, when the world locked down for Covid. She acquiesced to her family's concerns for her health and stayed home rather than come into work, though she still signed important documents and gave guidance from home. She was grateful to have her beloved dogs, Bailie and Sammy with her during that time. Gail is preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Richard Mueller. She is survived by her son, Chad Riddell (Jon) of Kennewick; her brothers, Gary Mueller (Sandy) of Spokane and Jay Mueller (Charlene) of Kennewick; numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The family will greet friends at a visitation on Friday, June 17th, 2022 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick. Funeral services will be Saturday, June 18th, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick. Entombment will follow in the family crypt at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
