Frieda Bender 92, of Kennewick, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Kennewick General Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born November 25, 1918 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to German emigrants, George and Charlotte BorneGantz. When she was 18 she met the "Love of her Life", Herbert Bender at a dance. They married on March 3, 1940 in Yodea, Wyoming. They lived with Herb's parents for the first year and then moved into their own place the following year. They moved to the Tri-Cities in 1943. After settling in the Finley area, they raised seven sons. Frieda and herb passed their love of fishing and camping onto their boys and spent many weekends on the lakes of Washington and also on the land they purchased later with their grandson in the mountains outside Valley, WA. Frieda was a homemaker, who will be remembered as a wonderful cook especially by her sons and for her passion for crocheting. She has provided many afghans & doilies to her family over the years. She also loved crossword puzzles, playing cards, and gardening, and never missed watching a Mariners game. She especially loved cooking family favorite German dishes and baking for her boys. It was not unusual on the holidays to see a friendly squabble over a piece of Mom's banana bread.
