Florence Svea Molinder Carpenter was born, of Swedish Immigrants, John and Hildur Molinder, in Fort Steele, WY, on April 14, 1911. Florence passed away in Seattle, Monday, November 19, 2007 at her daughter and son-in-law?s home at the age of 96. She shared a happy, close and inseparable childhood with beloved sisters Bertha Mrs. Harry Ritchey, Karen Mrs. Jim Brown, Sylvia Mrs. Woodrow Ice and dear brothers Bert and Swain. The family moved to Benton City, WA, where the children attended school, enjoyed farm life, and made many friends. The Molinder?s raised gardens and cherry orchards, and packed fruit at the warehouse in downtown Benton City each season. They lost their mother Hildur as early teenagers, and sister, Karen, left school to assume her mother?s role. Brother Bert served in the Army with General Patton at the Battle of the Bulge, and Brother Swain served in the Pacific during World War II. Florence and her twin, Bertha, were basketball stars and loved to listen to their brothers in the ?Jolly Swedes Band?, and attend the dances, where they met their future husbands. On Nov 27, 1933, Florence was married to Arthur C. Carpenter, the son of Charles and Annie Downing Carpenter. The Molinder?s and Carpenters spent many holidays and joyous weekends together camping, fishing, and celebrating. Florence and Art enjoyed their home together in Kennewick, sharing the beautiful flowers and produce from their gardens with family, neighbors, and friends. Their lives soon revolved around their children, Marlene and Gary and continued to do so as the family grew, adding son-in-law, Glen Chalcraft, and daughter-in-law Frances Ziegler. The family was blessed with grandchildren, Arthur and Eddie Carpenter, and Michael and Christopher Chalcraft. In later years, Florence and Art lived, and were cared for, at their daughter Marlene?s home in Seattle, where they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2002. It would be their last together, as Art passed away in 2003. In her final years, Florence enjoyed a special joy watching her great-grand children. Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Carpenter; brothers, Bert and Swain, and sisters Sylvia and Carrie; grandson, Eddie Carpenter, daughter-in-law Frances Carpenter and sister-in-law Frances Ice. She is survived, among others, by her twin sister, Bertha Ritchey of Tacoma; son-in-law and daughter, Glen and Marlene Chalcraft of Seattle; son Gary Carpenter of Kennewick; grandchildren Arthur Carpenter of Kennewick, Michael wife Kristi and Christopher wife Anne Chalcraft all of Seattle; great-grandchildren Artie Carpenter III, Dylan and Elliott Chalcraft, and Alexander and Megan Chalcraft; nieces and nephews, Bertil Brown of Spokane, Sylvia Brown Downey of Benton City, Janice Brown Richardson of North Carolina, and Jim Brown of Kennewick; Donna Ice and Neal Ice of Prosser; Ilene Molinder and Andrea Ritchey Hunting of Tacoma. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 24, at 2:00 pm at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick. The family extends appreciation to family and friends for their love and support, and to Northwest Hospital and Providence Hospice of Seattle for their kindness and care.
