Eugene Carl Koschik (Gene) died suddenly on Nov. 5, 2017 in Seattle, Washington following complications from surgery. Gene was born on June 16, 1931 in North Braddock, Pennsylvania to parents Carl and Anna Koschik. He graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania in 1949. He received a football scholarship from the University of Toledo, Ohio but returned to Pittsburgh after an injury and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1954. He received his Master's Degree in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army at Keflavik, Iceland from 1955 to 1956. After attending the Westinghouse Training Program in Pittsburgh, he began his career at Westinghouse Test Reactor in Madison, Pennsylvania. He worked for several Westinghouse nuclear divisions in Pittsburgh for 20 years before transferring to Hanford in 1971 as Section Manager in FFTF (Fast Flux Test Facility Procurement). He held several positions including FFTF Construction Planning, DOE Quality Assurance Consulting, and Tiger Team Coordination before retiring in 1991 from Westinghouse Hanford with 39 years of service. Gene lived a life of fellowship and service and was an active member for 46 years at Kennewick First United Methodist Church. He was a Lay Leader, Chairman of Evangelism and served in many leadership roles and continued to provide many hours volunteering in the community. He tried to model his Christian life with pride and integrity for his two boys, Jim and Ken, by doing for others. He also was a member of Kennewick Kiwanis Club, F&AM Lodge #153, Canyon Lakes Village Community Club and Tri-Cities Cancer Center Men's Club. Gene will be sorely missed but we will hold in our hearts the legacy of his love, his commitment to his faith, his warm smile, greeting and hearty handshake. Most of all we will miss his kind and gentle way. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, his children Jim Koschik and Ken Koschik (Eva). Grandchildren Trevor (Tiffany), Travis (Hannah), Samantha, Sydney, and Tyler George. Great grandchildren, Ava Koschik, McKenna Koschik, Hayden, Brody, and Grayson George. He is also survived by his brother Bob (Evie) and nephew Robb (Maria) and children. A celebration of his life will be on Thursday, November 16 at 1:00 pm at the Kennewick First United Methodist Church.
