Eugene C. Haren was called home to his Heavenly Father on Monday, May 21, 2007. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and sons. Gene was born on December 18, 1928 in Canton, Ohio to Lewis and Leona Haren. He attended high school at Lincoln High in Canton, Ohio before joining the Army in 1946 serving with the occupational forces in Germany until July 1947. Following discharge from the Army Gene attended Kent State University and the Allied Art Academy in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Gene married Janet Maxine Rhine on August 20, 1949 residing in Canton, Ohio and at that time entered the Army National Guard. He was called to service in Korea serving with the 987 Armored Field Artillery Battalion from 1950 to 1951. Following his service in Korea, Eugene started his engineering career with Griscom and Russel Company in Massillon, Ohio transferring to E.W. Bliss in Eddington, PA. Following E.W. Bliss?s closure he went to work for United Engineers Raytheon Corp as a Quality Assurance Manager. In 1975 he relocated from Chester, PA to Kennewick, WA where he continued working for United Engineers in Quality Control at the WPPS Plants until his retirement from Raytheon in 1992. Eugene was an active 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 8179 at St. Joseph?s Church in Kennewick. He also served as an usher at the 9:00am Sunday masses and was a member of the Serra Club. Eugene enjoyed oil painting, selling and displaying many of his works locally and was a member of Beax Arts of Kennewick. Eugene and Janet enjoyed their many travels in particular their trips to Australia, New Zealand and Rome. He was preceded in death his parents, brother Lew and a sister Margaret. Gene is survived by his wife Janet, sons Steven Sandra, Mark and David, seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, May 24, 2007 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at Mueller?s Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union, Kennewick, WA. Rosary will be Thursday, May 24, 2007, 7pm, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, 520 S. Garfield St., Kennewick, WA. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, May 25, 2007, 10:00am, at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church with interment to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park, 10th & Union, Kennewick, WA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Gene to Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice, 2108 W. Entiat, Kennewick, WA 99336 or St. Joseph?s Catholic Church building fund, 520 S. Garfield St., Kennewick, WA 99336.
