Obituary

Eric Douglas Harder died on Saturday, August 5, 2017, in Kennewick, Wash. He was born on May, 20, 1981, in Pendleton, Ore. In his youth, Eric developed a deep connection to the natural world. He was at home in the great outdoors and the forests of the Pacific Northwest, where he spent countless hours fishing its waters. He had an amazing sense of what to use to catch a fish no matter what the conditions were or where he was fishing. He was a talented musician and multi-instrumentalist, mastering the drums and producing electronic music across a variety of genres. Professionally, Eric worked as an electrician with Silverline Electric in Kennewick. He spoke of his coworkers as both friends and mentors. Throughout his life, Eric talked openly about the importance of spirituality and faith. He was protective of his beliefs and genuinely interested in the beliefs of others. He believed in giving thanks to God by surrounding others with compassion and generosity. Eric Harder knew life could be coarse and difficult, he understood complex emotions and he sought to protect those around him. He had a kind and loving heart. Eric had a loud laugh and a strong hug. He sends his love and gratitude to all of you. He is survived by his parents Carol Ferris Jackson and Doug and Helen Harder, and his brothers Brian Harder and Eric Reichow (Jessica). He was preceded in death by his grandparents Chester and Irene Temple Ferris, Robert Harder and Louise Jourdan Mayes, and Betty and Dale Spady. Service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Pendleton, Oregon at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 12, followed by refreshments in Crysler Hall. In honor of Eric, contributions may be made to the Cove Scholarship Fund at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer.
