Eleanor Irene Morbeck, 93 years, died Wednesday in Yakima, WA where she had lived since 2008. Following the death of her husband, Charles T. Morbeck, she moved to Yakima to be closer to their daughter Connie. Eleanor was born in Zeeland, N.D., October 10, 1920 to parents Jacob and Emelia Rohrer. She joined brothers Al, Ben, LeRoy and sisters Pat, Lorraine, and Laverne. In December 1941, Eleanor began 66 years of marriage to Charles Morbeck, who soon joined the Navy to serve during WWII. Charley preceded her in death in 2007. Eleanor was a charter member of the Tri-City Country Club where she enjoyed golf with her many friends. She also bowled in leagues in Kennewick. She was a member also of First Lutheran Church of Kennewick, and served on the original building committee for the present church building. In her professional life she was a real estate broker and in the late 50's she and Minnie Strawhun established S and M Realty, which touted itself as one of the first all-women real estate teams in the region. If she had a tattoo, it would have been of the Republican Party elephant. She worked tirelessly for conservative principles in government and was the first woman to be nominated from her party to serve in the 16th District as State Representative. The highlight of her political career came in 1960 when she represented Washington as a delegate to the Republican National Convention held in Chicago. She returned with many fond memories and memorabilia from that experience. She is survived by her daughter, Connie Buckley (Joe) of Selah, granddaughters Stephanie Eisert (Clark), Andrea Sperry (Chris), and great-grandchildren Lanie, Gracie, Charlie Anne, Cole, and Sadie Lynn, all of the Portland/Vancouver area. She has two surviving sisters, Laverne Renko and Lorraine Mason in California. Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick with a reception to follow at First Lutheran Church of Kennewick, 418 N. Yelm St., Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may donate to the Major Repair Fund at First Lutheran Church of Kennewick.
