Eleanor Lucille Moe was born on November 17, 1915 to Amel and Jane Klundt Gust in Verona, Wisconsin and passed away September 22, 2011 at the age of 95. Eleanor graduated from Ridgeway High School and Dodgeville Teacher's College in Wisconsin and taught in one-room school houses for several years, starting at the age of 17. She has remained in contact with her, now 82-year old student, Donald Gordon, of Mount Horeb, WI, who at the age of 6, was her first grade pupil. On July 5, 1935, Eleanor married Bud Moe and has always claimed she married him for his money, which was eight dollars a week working at a dairy farm. The family moved to Kennewick in 1947, arriving in a 1931 Chevrolet with four kids and a dog named Snookie. They made their home in the little yellow house on the corner of 27th and Gum, which soon became the hub of activity for all of the neighborhood kids and family gatherings. Eleanor seemed to be the creator of the "Open Door" policy, friends and family alike were always welcome. The only thing Eleanor asked upon peoples departure was, "Drive careful, don't hit a Lutheran." Eleanor was active in the Lutheran Church as an organist for 50 years and played the organ for more than 80 weddings and funerals. She served as Sunday School Superintendent, teacher, historian, a member of the church counsel, and was known as the "Poem Lady". For almost thirty years, as a Women's Circle member, every November she would throw a birthday party for all church members who shared her birthday month. Eleanor kept herself young staying active in bowling, bunco, pinochle, bingo, church, friend and family functions, and writing poetry. Schwann's ice cream bars were always available to any and all visitors, especially the mailman daily and the garbage man weekly. Another favorite pastime was talking on the phone where once, upon hanging up after a 40-minute conversation, her son asked her who she was talking to and she replied, "Oh, it was a wrong number." Eleanor remained active in all her endeavors until a broken hip in 2007 which was eventually followed by a moved into assisted living. The family would like to express their appreciation to the loving staff at The Lighthouse where she was residing at the time of her death. Eleanor is preceded in death by her parents Amel and Jane; her husband Sigurd "Bud" Moe; and her brother Wilbert Gust. Also preceding her in death were her in-laws Jorgen and Annie Moe; borther-in-law Walter Jabs; and daughter-in-law Vonis Moe. In addition to her sister Kathryn Jabs, she is survived by sons Duane, Dennis, and Dale Susie Moe, and daughter Donna Jim Rasmussen. Surviving grandchildren are Melinda Bos Mike Sullivan, Marli Sarchet Terry Mathis, Mitzi Veng, Mark Moe, Teresa Moe, Sharlee Gabino Diaz, Sharee David McKay, Debbie Mark Fisch, Ashley Brad Limegrover and Natalie Moe. Surviving great-grandchildren include Jennifer Walker Josey Conner, Jeremiah Walker, Mason and Mathew Veng, Tylar Sullivan, Tiffani Dollarhide, Shjon Vinnedge, Elizabeth Cervantes, Samantha, Hayley and Hannah McKay, James, Jeremy and Jerissa Fisch; and great-great-granddaughters Kori Dyer and Jazmin Conner. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 30, 2011 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 640 N. Columbia Center Blvd, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside service and reception will immediately follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park and Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 10th and Union Street, Kennewick. Viewing will be held Thursday, September 29th, 2011, 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street.
