Edwin Duane Boomer Ed, age 61, of Richland, passed away unexpectedly at home from heart failure on Sunday, September 28, 2008. Ed was born March 7, 1947 to Edwin & Velta Boomer in Richmond, CA. He was proud to be the son of a World War II Navy veteran and a mother whose work at the Army and Navy supply depots in Richmond also supported the war effort. His sister, Carolyn, was born 6 years later, after which the family moved to the Modesto, CA area, settling in Waterford on a property with a small walnut orchard. His childhood was spent there, and he graduated from Oakdale High School in 1965. He loved acting and theater in high school, playing the lead role in his senior play, "Living With Father." He graduated from Modesto Junior College and attended California State University, Stanislaus campus. Ed and Rebekah Nelson, his first wife, were married in 1967. They were blessed with their son, Brian Edwin, in 1970. The young family spent nearly 20 years together, raising Brian and pursuing their careers. They ultimately realized their lives needed to go in different directions, yet always remained good friends. In 1968, Ed began a rewarding career in the title insurance business and would have celebrated his 40th anniversary with Chicago Title on October 21st.. In Modesto, he managed a department that specialized in subdivisions and was well-known and respected throughout California's Central Valley. He transferred to the company's Kennewick office in 1994, parlaying those years of technical experience into sales and customer service. He received many company and industry awards, both in California and Washington. Ed and Linda Weaver Boomer were married in Bermuda in June 1991. They met through Chicago Title, when she needed help on a subdivision plat. They often joked that in her case, he took customer service to a whole new level! They lived in Modesto until 1994 while she finished her college education, after which they moved to Richland. Ed inherited his father's green thumb and had a great talent for landscaping, always having a meticulous, beautiful yard. He was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan, and could tell you about every touchdown, fumble, and every "bad call" the refs made against his team. He loved traveling - especially trips to the beach with Linda and his "girls", mini-dachshunds, Rita and Rosie. An ardent student of Civil War history, a lifelong wish to visit battlefields in Virginia and surrounding areas was fulfilled in April of this year. Ed is survived by his wife, Linda of Richland; son Brian of Yosemite, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Jim Honberger of Sonora, CA; nephew Travis Moore and niece Melody Moore Barter of Modesto, CA; former wife Rebekah of Yosemite, CA; cousins Janice Curler, Jerry Owens and Phil Owens; and in-laws Joe and Mona Weaver, Sherri Weaver, John and Maria Weaver, Jack Weaver and his son Jerad, all in Washington state. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Edwin and Velta Boomer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 4th, at 1:00 pm, at the First United Methodist Church located at 2 South Dayton Street in Kennewick with a reception following.
