She was born on August 22, 1934, in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of William and Loure Firoved. Growing up on her family's dairy farm, Edna would recall a favorite memory of going to the dairy barn with her father after school.

Following Newt's career, they first moved to Des Moines, IA where she had her two children, Tom and John. In 1964, they moved to Portland. In 1979 they relocated to Kennewick, WA where she lived for 41 years.

Edna took great joy in being active in groups with others. During her lifetime she was active in 4H, PEO, Kennewick Newcomers and the Kennewick First Presbyterian Church. She cherished the friendships that she made over the years.
