Tamez Jr.
Apr 26, 1956 — Jun 25, 2026
Edelmiro Tamez Jr. passed away on June 25, 2026, at the age of 70.
J.R. was born on April 26, 1956, in McAllen, Texas, to Edelmiro Tamez Sr. and Blanca E. Tamez. As a young child, he and the family traveled from Texas to Washington, first settling in Grandview, WA before making Pasco, WA their permanent home in the late 1960s.
J.R. attended Stevens Junior High School, where he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. At the age of 14, he won the Hoop Shooters Advance free throw competition, an accomplishment that reflected his talent, dedication, and love for the game. He later graduated from Pasco High School in 1975.
After graduation, J.R. worked as an auto mechanic and held various jobs before joining Local 598 Pipefitters & Steamfitters in 1978, Retiring in 2022 as Journeyman Pipefitter/Welder.
From a young age, J.R. had a passion for classic old-school cars, which became a lifelong hobby. He was truly one of a kind. J.R. believed there wasn't much anyone could do better than him, and he wasn't shy about saying so. His gift of gab, quick wit, and playful trash talk kept everyone laughing. There will never be another J.R. Tamez.

Ociel (Mary Lou) Tamez, Homero (Maria)Tamez, Eleamar Sanchez, Blanca Tamez, and Dora Tamez; his significant other, Patricia Gibson; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends who will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
