Eddie John Manthos was born on July 28th 1929, the oldest of four children, to Greek immigrant parents in Chicago, IL. He moved to Des Moines, IA when he was 12 years old. His family shared their home with an uncle who was the Priest for Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, which was next door to his house. Eddie spent many years serving as the head altar boy. He graduated from Iowa State University in 1951 with a degree in Chemistry. He then worked in the field of Metallurgy. He started his career with the Ames Laboratory at Iowa State University. Eddie married Nancy Givens on September 21st, 1952 and would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary this year. Together they made a home and started a family having two children, Jon Manthos of Walla Walla and Nikki Saleen of Kuna, ID. They have three granddaughters, Andrea Manthos and Vanessa Whitten of Pasco and Victoria Manthos of Richland, along with his great-granddaughters Peyton and Victoria. After his job at Iowa State University, he worked for 20 years in Oak Ridge, TN for Union Carbide at X-10. Eddie was happiest working with the Scouts over the years while living in Tennessee. The family moved to the Tri-Cities in 1974 and Eddie worked for Westinghouse where he retired in 1994. He stayed very busy hunting and fishing. He was active in the Richland Rod and Gun Club serving as the secretary for 19 years. He has been active in the Orthodox Church for his entire life. He was passionate about following his Orthodox faith and incorporating it in his everyday life. The celebration of life and service will be held August 29th at 9:00am at Saint John Orthodox Church, 283 E. Reata Road (off Leslie) in Kennewick, 99338, reception to follow after the burial. The family would like to make a special thank you to the Hospice House for the love and care they gave Eddie.
