Dorothy Ruth (Parker) Henager passed away peacefully in her home in Kennewick, WA at the age of 88 on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. She was born in North Terre Haute, IN on November 29, 1925 to Robert Edward and Ruth Helen Parker. She grew up with her older brother Bob in her beloved North Terre Haute but moved during her high school years to Joliet, IL where she graduated from high school in 1943. Her family moved to Prior, OK; Salem, OR; and then Richland, WA after the war as her father had taken a job as a power plant operator at Hanford. She married Charles Henry Henager on May 6, 1950 in Richland, WA after meeting him at a Grange Hall dance in Lind, WA where he was working for the summer. They lived in one-half of a B house in Richland on Barth Ave. and later moved to Kennewick in 1958 where they raised their three children. She worked in the mailroom at Hanford before her marriage and later worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Vernon Snyder in Richland. She was very family-oriented and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel with her husband, Chuck, and they enjoyed several trips to Europe. They especially enjoyed their visits to Switzerland and Lichtenstein. Her favorite pet was a Maltese poodle that she named Chamonix after the French town. After retirement, they bought a home in Canyon Lakes Village where she enjoyed the social life immensely. She made many new friends but cherished her friends from all the stages of her life. She loved to shop for clothes and kept up with fashion her entire life; she could always be counted on for an expert opinion. She loved reading, watching basketball (especially Gonzaga basketball), and dining out with family. She is survived by her three children, Chuck Henager, Jr. and his wife Pam, Don Henager and his wife Helene, Robin Henager-Greene and her husband Vincas; six grandchildren: Anthony and his wife Candyce, Jessica and her husband Isaac, Samuel, Sophia, Sierra, and Tessa; and 4 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles Henager, Sr. and her brother, Robert Parker, preceded her in death. The family would like to thank Tri-Cities Chaplaincy Hospice as well as her excellent caregivers for their compassionate care in her last months. A memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 at 1:00 PM at the Kennewick First United Methodist Church. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to her church, Kennewick First United Methodist.
