Dorothy was called to glory on Friday, June 2, 2006. Born December 17, 1916 in Jackson County, Minnesota, Dorothy was a beautiful lady and the second of three children of Herman and Bertha Gieser. When Dorothy was a little girl, the family moved to a farm in South Dakota where she attended Lennon Country School and then graduated from Oelrichs High School- excelling in language, history and speech. She then received beauty school training in Laramie, Wyoming. While visiting Rapid City, South Dakota, Dorothy met the love of her life, Edward Ralph Buckingham. Dorothy and Ed were married on July 24, 1937 in Chadron, Nebraska and made their home in Rapid City before migrating west through Montana and eventually settling in Washington. Dorothy and Ed celebrated sixty-six years together before his passing in 2003. After settling into a beautiful brick home in Pasco, Dorothy graciously welcomed entire neighborhoods of kids who often took over the house, ransacking the basement, climbing the nut tree and playing in the spacious backyard. She took pride in her appearance, was a fastidious housekeeper and excellent communicator, writing daily letters to family and friends. Dorothy loved family parties, and was a talented cook everything tasted better at Grandma?s house. Dorothy also enjoyed poetry and would quote long passages inspired by the moment at hand. And she was proudest of her two children, four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren?keeping scrapbooks of every accomplishment. She was preceded in death by husband Edward ?Buck? Buckingham; and brother Raymond Gieser of Missoula, MT. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Connie and spouse Ervin Bader of Pasco, WA; daughter, Ida Hawkins of Pasco, WA; granddaughters and spouses; Linda and Dan Johnson of Kokomo, IN; Brenda and Todd Thompson of Goshen, IN; Tana and Mike Inglima of Pasco, WA; Glacier and Stephen Kingsford-Smith of White Salmon, WA; sister and spouse Dollie and Louis Gachic of Sun City, AZ; nephew and spouse Gordon and Kelly Gieser, and grandnieces Trisha and Tina Gieser of Missoula, MT. Dorothy was happiest when surrounded by family. She is now with her dear Ed in glory, yet she?ll remain forever in our hearts. We?ll miss her special personality, and draw comfort from many happy memories of a beautiful lady, devoted mother, and loving grandmother.
