Obituary

Dorothy Lorene Balderston, longtime Kennewick resident, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Lorene was born August 15, 1925 in Morland, Kansas to Claude and Ella Balderston. She graduated from Morland Rural High School and attended college in Hays, Kansas; obtaining a teaching credential and was an elementary teacher for five years. Lorene moved to the Tri-Cities in 1948 and worked for various Hanford contractors, retiring in 1987 from Battelle. After retiring, she volunteered at Kennewick General Hospital and The Red Cross. Lorene was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ella and Claude, and her sister, Ruth Acheson. She leaves to mourn her sisters, Mildred Balderston, Kennewick, WA, Doris Smith Dale, Denver, CO, Ann Bogue, Phoenix, AZ, Marjorie Minatre LeRoy, Stockton, CA. Also surviving are three nieces, four nephews, four great-nieces, nine great-nephews; of which one great-niece and two great-nephews are presently serving in the military. Lorene was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church City Church and accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 22, 2012, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. Funeral services are Friday, March 23rd, at 1:00 p.m., at City Church, 4624 W. 10th Avenue, Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center or a charity of your choice.
