Dorothy Grandma Dot was born in Beatrice, Nebraska to Ira and Sally Brockman, and was the second oldest of twelve children. She lived there until marrying Gerhard Sam Aden in 1941, when she moved to California while Sam served in World War II. After the war, Sam became a bricklayer, and they moved to Wyoming, where they lived for many years. During their first 18 years of marriage, Sam and Dot enjoyed caring for various relatives' children, but they were overjoyed when they became parents with the adoption of their sons. Daniel was born in 1959 and Mark in 1963. The Aden family moved around the west for a few years, eventually settling in Kennewick in 1968. It was here that Sam and Dot started Aden Masonry Builders in 1970. They enjoyed their life together in this community and were blessed with a 58 year marriage. Dot was preceded in death by Sam, who died in 2000 at age 80. As one of the oldest in a large family, Dot developed her mothering instinct at an early age, and most of her siblings were beneficiaries of her generous spirit. She suffered many serious medical problems throughout her life, but her innate optimism and courage always prevailed. Dot loved to be around people, and had a sly sense of humor. Her family and friends will miss her warm and caring nature and her joy when around her family, but they trust she is resting now and without pain. Dot's family is grateful for the loving care she received during her last two years by her care-giver and friend, Ruth Burtsfield. Dot is survived by her sons, Dan and Mark, and their families, her remaining siblings, Mary Fern, Sally McCarthy, Margie Closner and Bob Brockman, and various nieces and nephews. Dan lives in Kennewick and is married to Laurie Watts, and has daughters Alexis married to Steve Buschbach and Erica married to Robert Gale. Mark lives in Spokane and is married to Stephanie Howe, and has a son, Erik currently in college and a daughter, Nicole currently in high school. Steve and Lexie are expecting twin girls shortly, and Bobby and Erica are expecting a boy this summer. Dot was looking forward to the impending births of her first great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 16 at 3 pm at the Kennewick Seventh-day Adventist Church, 7105 W. 10th Avenue. Dot lived her life with a firm belief in Jesus.
