Our beloved mother, Doris Evelyn Wurz, went home to reunite with our father, Carl Ellison Wurz, on September 24, 2012, at the age of 88. Mom was born in Plainview, Arkansas, on August 5, 1924, to Fannie Mae and Clayton Smith. She married Carl on July 4, 1941, while he was serving our nation in the Army. Mom and Dad owned a grocery store in Bigelow, Arkansas, until their move to Richland, WA, in 1949. They moved to Kennewick in 1952 where she resided until her death. Once her six children all reached school age, she returned to the workplace as a cake decorator for Henry Belair's Bakery. In 1963 Mom and Dad bought Carl's Tammy Coffee Shop in Kennewick's Angus Village which she continued to operate until shortly after Dad's passing in 1973. Mom enrolled in CBC for business classes and then joined the US Postal Service until she retired. Mom never remarried but enjoyed the company of her special friend John Reed. They took many trips seeing the USA. Mom was preceded in death by our father Carl, John Reed, her brother John Smith, sister Betty Chaney, and son-in-law George Mulholland. Mom is survived by her 6 children, Carla Mulholland (Bob), Dick Wurz (Colleen), Betty Fry (John), Patricia English, Margaret Howard (Ken), and Chuck Wurz (Chris). She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. The family offers special thanks to mom's dedicated and loving caregivers, Christina English, Patricia English, Cathy Hartley, Colleen Lobato, Misty Miller, Pat Perdue, Pam Turner, Chris Wurz, and Megan Zlatich. We would also like to thank Hospice for the wonderful care and support they gave mom and our family during mom's final journey. The funeral service will be held Friday, September 28th, 1:30 p.m. at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 10th and Union Street in Kennewick, with visitation on Thursday from 5 to 8:00 p.m. A reception will follow the services in the Hospitality Room. In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be given in her name to Hospice at The Chaplaincy. Click here to watch video
