Obituary

Donna McCoard Stevens died peacefully at age 95 in Kennewick, Washington, on August 2, 2008. She was born November 22, 1912, in Provo, Utah, to parents, Harry and Della McCoard. Donna had three sisters--Alice, Della , and Monita, and one brother-- Harry. Donna attended the Provo public schools and Brigham Young University where she met Jay Stevens in 1934. Donna's uncle, Minister Charles McCoard, married them August 4, 1940. Donna and Jay resided in Provo, living in the same home for 55 years. After a total of 89 years in Provo, she moved to Kennewick 6 years ago. She is survived by her son, Don Stevens and wife, Dottie, of Kennewick; daughter, Mary Stevens Anglin of Washington, Utah; and grandson, Gerard Brian Cullen and wife, Melanie of Sierra Vista, Arizona. Donna had a great love of the outdoors and hiked most of the trails in central Utah. She frequently participated in the annual public climbs of Mt. Timpanogos and achieved "Summit Club" status several times in the 1930's. Throughout her life, she enjoyed camping and picnics with her family in Utah's mountains. Donna and her husband, Jay, enjoyed traveling and experiencing new things. They traveled extensively in the United States, and went to Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Tahiti, Australia and New Zealand. Travel in the Southwest USA included their love for rock hunting, fishing, bird watching Audubon Society Members, camping, and snowshoeing. Donna was very attached to her friends and extended family in Utah and other locations, and she actively kept in touch with them after moving to Kennewick. She greatly appreciated the calls and letters from the many people who communicated with her. There will be a graveside memorial service for Donna at a later date at the Provo City Cemetery.
