Donald Lee Wally Wallin passed away surrounded by his loving family on February 7, 2009 in Kennewick, WA. He was born on October 3, 1922 in Henryetta, OK to Elmer and Hattie Wallin. Wally spent his early years on a ranch near Porter, NM. After graduating from Porter High School, Wally joined the Marines in November of 1942. He fought in the Pacific Theatre until he was honorably discharged in October, 1945. He attained the rank of corporal, qualified as a rifle sharpshooter and bayonet expert, and carried the heavy BAR. His unit was one of the first to land on Guam and Bougainville. Once Wally returned home, he attended college at the University of New Mexico for a year before becoming inseparable from Wanda Lee Fickel. The two were married in 1948 in San Jon, New Mexico where they purchased and operated a theatre. In 1951, the two moved to Los Angeles, CA where Wally began his banking career with Bank of America. Wally enjoyed many years with the bank, starting in the inspection department and moving on to become a bank manager at several branches in Los Angeles and Orange County. He retired from the bank in 1983, and proudly carried his Bank of America "Founders Club" card at all times. Feeling he retired too early, he and Wanda worked side by side running "The Print Shop" in Anaheim for several years before leaving his much-loved Southern California home. The couple moved to Kennewick, WA in 1994, where they enjoyed being close to their daughter, son-in-law, and two grandchildren. Wally enjoyed square dancing, traveling, following the stock market, reviewing the news, and working in the yard, where his peach crop made new friends every year. But above all, what he enjoyed the most was spending more than 60 years together with the love of his life, Wanda Wallin, whom preceded him in death by a mere 6 weeks ago. Wally is survived by his children: daughter Kim and Jack Salemme of Kennewick, WA, son Kyle Wallin of Lincoln and Diana Wallin of Rocklin, CA. Grandchildren: Traci Salemme of Aspen, CO, Keri Salemme of Kennewick, WA, and Emily and David Wallin of Lincoln, CA. He is also survived by his brother, Leonard Wallin and his sister, Sylvia Norred, both of San Jon, NM. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters-in-law Nadine Wallin of San Jon, Peggy Wallin of Moriarty, NM, Carrie Wallinof Silver City, NM, and brother-in-law Bill and Sue Fickel of Albuquerque, NM. He is preceded in death by his wife Wanda, an infant son Rudy Kyle Wallin, sister Valentine Wallin, brothers Gayland, Edsel, and Kenneth Wallin, parents Elmer and Hattie Nash Wallin. In lieu of flowers, please consider any donations to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center, in Kennewick, Wa. A Service of Remembrance will be Saturday, February 14, 2009, 1:00pm, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home located at 1401 S. Union Street in Kennewick.
