On March 17, 2009, Dolores "Dee" Zeigler passed away peacefully to rejoin her beloved husband for all eternity. Dee bravely and gracefully fought through two open heart surgeries while, also, battling leukemia, chronic kidney disease, and pulmonary fibrosis; she was a true soldier in her fight, but sadly lost the battle. Dee was surrounded by her loving family and knew they wished her a safe journey. Dee was born in Centralia, Washington on May 1, 1926 to Maxine and Forrest Strohl. When she was just a toddler, her father passed away, but she was fortunate to be raised by her adoring mother and loving step-father, "Joseph Simon". Dee attended and graduated from Olympia High School in 1943. After high school, she began a career as a secretary. Not long after the war ended, she bumped into a sailor, Norman Norm L. Zeigler, who also attended Olympia High School. After a whirlwind romance, they married on July 3, 1946. Dee and Norm built a loving and respectful relationship that lasted over 56 years until Norm's death on November 12, 2002. They were blessed with four children. After devoting her life to raising her children, Dee set out on her own career. She became a bookkeeper for a chiropractic office, which she enjoyed and excelled at her job. After retirement, Dee and Norm travelled the United States and Mexico with their precious, and ever present, Cocker Spaniel, Brandee at their side. Their journeys were taken in their pride and joy, a beautiful fifth wheel, which was their home for over 10 years. They had the time of their lives, made many friends and built many lasting memories. When their travelling days ended, they settled in Richland, Washington to be close to several of their children and grandchildren. Dee leaves behind three devoted and loving daughters; Candis and David Oyanagi of Las Vegas, NV, Suzie and Stan Lepka of Pasco, WA, and Sally Martin and her companion Fred Hamilton of Monroe, WA. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law, Barbara Zeigler and her companion, Richard Cournyer of Pasco, WA. Dee also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 6 step great grandchildren, Also surviving her are her brothers-in-law, Duane Zeigler of Olympia, WA, and Dale and Diane Zeigler of Helena, MT. Dee was preceded in death by her husband, Norm, her parents, and her son, Steven. She had a zest for life and sense of humor that remained intact until her final breath. The family would like to thank the many doctors who attended mom during her many years of ill health. Those wonderful and caring doctors and staffs are as follows: Dr. James Campbell, Dr, Thomas Rado, Dr. Hassan Haddadin, Dr. Wassin Khawandi, Dr. Stephen Ewer and Dr. Juan Cordero, who performed one of her heart surgeries. We would also like to thank Hospice, particularly RN Case Manager, Michelle McKinney, Medical Social Worker, Lisa Knipe-Vasquez and Rev. Jill Ross for without their help and guidance we would have had a much more difficult journey. At Dee's request, there will be no services. This has been a time for family to gather and remember the wonderful life Dee had and the joy in knowing she has been reunited with those who have passed before her.
