In loving memory of Dennis Welch, born on August 22, 1953, who peacefully departed this life on February 10. Dennis's life was a testament to his unwavering faith and commitment to his family and his country.

Dennis was born in Kennewick, but his father's military career took the family all over the country and the world. As a result, Dennis attended high school in four different states. In 1972, Dennis joined the Army as part of an armor unit and spent two tours in Germany 1974-1976, and again in 1978-1980. After completing that enlistment, Dennis came back home and worked at the Washington State Department of Licensing. There he met his best friend and love of his life, Mary. They married on October 10th, 1981, and she remained his biggest champion to the very end. Dennis still had a strong desire to serve so he joined the Army National Guard, 303rd Armor Division, for three years. Though successful in his civilian career, after 9/11 Dennis felt "it was my duty, as a soldier to return to my unit." So, at the age of 48, Dennis re-enlisted again, this time assigned as military police. At the age of 53, he was deployed to Camp Victory in Iraq, for Iraqi Freedom. It was during this tour of service that Dennis suffered a crushing back injury that led to two failed surgeries, years of unimaginable pain, battles for care, and ultimately resulted in the loss of his life. In total, Dennis served his country for 15 years and 39 days.

Before Dennis's injuries stole his mobility, he and Mary enjoyed traveling in their motorhome, visiting family, attending car shows, and while at home restoring old cars and riding his bike.

Dennis was not only a patriot but also an equally devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Dennis leaves behind his beloved wife of 42 years, Mary Welch; his cherished children, Stephanie, Sara, and Kyle Welch; and his adoring grandchildren, Sierra, Nikki, Clarence Welch, and Taylor. Over the past year, Dennis deeply enjoyed having Clarence read to him. They shared a special bond. His gentle presence and loving spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. He found joy in the simple moments spent with his grandchildren, whom he adored as their "Loving Papa."

As he peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by his family, with his wife holding his hand, Dennis transitioned from this world to the next, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and service. Though he may be physically absent, his memory will forever remain etched in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

The public, family, and friends are invited to join us for a memorial service to honor and celebrate Dennis's life on March 30th at 1:00 p.m. at the Friends of Dishler Veterans Ranch at 104838 N. Case Road, Prosser, Washington. After the memorial, close friends and family are invited to join us at Dennis's home for a private gathering.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the community for making Dennis feel loved and appreciated over the last months of his life. His 70th birthday was celebrated with a private parade in front of his house, that included Pasco Police and Fire Departments, Ye Olde Car Club, a video from Big Bro Joe Foundation, a Quilt of Honor and dozens of heartwarming cards and letters from the community. Through grateful tears he said, "I have never had a birthday like this." He wanted everyone to remember, there are many bed-ridden Veterans, that need to be recognized. In Dennis's words "Never forget."

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to a charity close to Dennis's heart. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
