Obituary

Dennis Lee Moe To be remembered as "A Hippie At Heart" was the request of Dennis who passed away on Feb. 7, 2022 in Richland following complications with pneumonia. Nicknamed Butch and later, Elrod, he was born in Madison, WI on June 23, 1943 to Sigurd "Bud" and Eleanor (Gust) Moe. At age 4 the family moved to Kennewick, where he lived the remaining 74 years. He graduated from Kennewick HS in 1961, CBC, 1963 and Central WA, 1971, with a BA (Sociology). He was baptized in Mt. Horeb Lutheran, 1943, confirmed at Kennewick 1st Lutheran, 1957. He was devoted to his faith and proudly proclaimed all family and friends in his nightly prayers. He enlisted in the National Guard in 1964. He served as a cook and was awarded service and good conduct ribbons. He attained the rank of Specialist 5 prior to his Honorable Discharge from Co. A, 1stBN, 303D Armor of Pasco 1970. His displays of Old Glory and Red, White, and Blue decorations were evidence of his patriotism. He married Mary Elizabeth Parker in 1967, then later, Carole A. Briggs in 1980 which terminated childless and in divorce. Employment included brief stints in Hanford, NPRR, Benton Co. Jail, and WSP. He became a caseworker for WA. State Employment but a potential successful career was cut short when he became a victim to Bi-Polar Disorder. He played slow pitch softball, loved the White Sox, Mariners, and Seahawks, collected pennies, and could not function without music. His favorite travel was to the Drive-Thru at Zip's and McDonald's and he idolized the word "Free"! We will miss his sense of humor and watching him use mom's good towels to wash his cars. He was dedicated to his mother and provided extraordinary personal care for her. His personal poem to her sums it best: "Sing a song of Mothers, sweet and dear and fine, and I am chiming in to say, the best of all is 'Mine'!" Preceded in death by his parents and a niece, Marli, he is survived by brother, Duane (Kennewick), sister, Donna Rasmussen (Jim), Pasco, brother Dale (Susan) (Delaware), 12 nieces, 9 nephews, and best friend, Jerry Lang. Dennis requested no services, a private family celebration may be held at a later date. At 9 months, his first word was "cow" and his final words were "I love you, Duane, Donna, and Dale." We will miss you Brother.
