David Stewart Tuck, born in Denver, Colorado on November 29, 1952 passed away suddenly on June 11, 2012. He was a loving and proud father, enthusiastic grandfather, gifted friend, capable teacher and coach, eternal uncle and brother, and consummate storyteller - never without a comment or clever look in his eye. He lived in Richland and Bellevue with his parents and sister as a child. His mother re-married a military man, and the family moved around before settling in Bellevue again when David was 15. He graduated from Interlake High School in 1971 where he founded the Interlake Fresh Air Frisbee Team, possibly the first competitive Frisbee team in the country, with a group of friends to whom he remains close even today. He then attended Western Washington University and graduated with a degree in Education, History and Ethnic Studies in 1975. After a financially successful but ultimately unsustainable venture into business with KSPD and Associates, he began his career as an educator at his high school alma mater, much to the amazement of his former teachers. He later received his library certification from Eastern Washington University and his Master's Degree from Northwest Nazarene College in 1992. Since 1976, he has taught at several schools across eastern Washington, including Selkirk High School, Connell High School, McLoughlin Middle School where he was the 1991 Teacher of the Year, and Park Middle School. He finally settled at Southridge High School in Kennewick in 1997 for his self-described best years of his career as he landed a position suited to his many talents and got to see his children complete their high school adventures. His after-school activities included coaching both football and girls' basketball throughout his 37 year teaching career. Dave had the ability to connect with all people. Despite his busy schedule, he enjoyed keeping in contact with family, friends and colleagues from all stages of his life. He will be remembered for his endless generosity, quick wit and wild imagination which resulted in activities like driving a $400 car purchased from Craigslist across the country with his best friend, Kurt Jaehning, or co-founding the Bad Film Society, where he and several fellow teachers kept up with the film tastes of younger generations. Stories and one-liners of "Dad", "Uncle Dave", "Mr. Tuck", and just plain "Dave" will survive him for years to come. David was predeceased by his parents, Paul Edward Tuck and Marian Janelle Hurt whom David cared for in the last years of her life and his son, Jeb. He is survived by his children Paul, Jason, and Donnely Tuck, granddaughter Madisyn Millhouse-Tuck, sisters Paula Suzanne Straw and Kelly Hall, and his ex-wife Diane Tuck, with whom he remained close. Dave will live on in the memories of family, honorary family, friends, colleagues, and students past and present. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 23rd at 2:00p.m. at the Southridge High Gymnasium at 3520 Southridge Blvd in Kennewick. Upon his request, casual attire and/or Hawaiian shirts are highly encouraged at the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave's honor to the Youth Suicide Prevention Program, The Children's Reading Foundation of the Mid-Columbia or Salud Juntos an organization founded by one of Dave's honorary nephews.
