David William Fraley was born on January 12, 1947, to Naomi Marie and Raymond W. Fraley, Jr. in West Lafayette, Indiana. As a child, he and his mother followed his career Army father and lived in Germany where he learned to speak German and alpine ski. Always involved with sports, he was in track, wrestling and tennis in high school. Life sports included squash, racquet ball, fast pitch softball, bicycling, motorcycling, skiing, and hiking the Cascade Trail. He loved Alfa Romeos and rebuilt two. His love of sports cars also included Corvettes, Jaguars, and Porsches.

Dave attended Purdue University, earning a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering. He moved to the Tri-Cities in 1976 and remained here except for a brief time in Seattle. He worked for UNC, Westinghouse, Battelle, Boeing, Energy Northwest, and Fluor Hanford, ending his career as CIO and CFO for Fluor.

He married several times but it was with Melinda Brown the star of his life was born, daughter Clarissa Fraley. It was then he discovered how his heart could go walking around outside his body and make independent decisions on her own. She remained at his side until the end.

He married Janice in 2002 and often told others it was the "best decision I ever made." They enjoyed traveling, but also spent lots of time together at home.

Upon retirement, he enjoyed working intensely on museum quality to-scale ship models, cutting planks of exotic woods, bending, sanding, painting, and rigging them. Another earlier hobby was making Tiffany styled stained glass lamps. As well, he loved building bicycles and owned several. He had definitely collected many items of interest to him.

Dave had a deep sense of community. He was in Leadership Tri-Cities, Class I, on the Richland Chamber of Commerce, on Boards for the Reach Museum, Columbia Industries, the Richland Education Foundation, Richland Economic Development Board, and the Children's Museum. His sense of ethics and dedication to supporting the entire community were priorities.

Dave is survived by wife Jan, daughter Clarissa, step-sons Justin Clary (Kerri), Tyler Clary (Alistaire), grandchildren Kate, Beth, Carson, and Kellen, brother Jon (Kathy) Fraley and sister Karen (Dean) Stegman.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond W. Fraley, Jr, and Naomi Marie Fraley.

Dave's memorial service will be held at Mueller's Funeral Home on Union Street in Kennewick on October 5th at 10am. There will be a reception afterwards at Zintel Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-Cities Cancer Center Foundation.
