A gentleman with a wonderful sense of humor, David, a pharmacist, owned and operated Cork's Pharmacy, an independent drug store, for 23 years. He worked for Robert "Cork" Simmelink starting in 1973. He became a partner with Cork in the 1980's and took over ownership upon Cork's retirement. The store's final day of operation was August 20, 2013. David received the gift of loyalty from his employees even after the closing of Cork's Pharmacy. David was born in Fargo, North Dakota and grew up across the Red River in Moorhead, Minnesota. He went to North Dakota State University's College of Pharmacy. His first employment as a pharmacist was at Payless Drug Store on the Parkway in Richland, Washington in the same year, 1966, the he graduated from NDSU. Later, when the new state of the art Payless on Lee Blvd. opened, David worked along with manager Jack Dowd, assistant manager Richard Shannon, RPh, Ron Kuch, RPh and Bill Knirck, RPh. David was a friend to all, along with James Movick, RPh and Richard Kuch, RPh. David married Carla Pettus in May, 1973. They had just celebrated 40 wedded years together. David shall be greatly missed by his customers, employees, friends, family, and his little buddy, Brody. David is survived by his wife Carla, sister Marilynn (Sherwood Sr.) Peterson, nephews Sherwood Jr., Charles, John Peterson, nephew Paul H. Alme, nieces Laura Baldwin and Karen Williams, and in-laws Olga Cadish and Roy Pettus. David was preceded in death by his parents Paul F. and Stella S. Alme, brother Paul S Alme and parents-in-law Brooks and Elna Pettus. A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2013 at the First Presbyterian Church, 2001 W. Kennewick Ave., Kennewick, Washington. Because David donated to local school events for kids, consider in lieu of flowers, donating to a local school or a charity of your choice.
