That we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, but all that we love deeply becomes part of us. Danny Headley passed away on April 18, 2014, at age 66, after one of his daily get-togethers with friends. In the 41 years Danny lived in Tri-Cities, he developed a vast number of dear friends and admirers, who join his large, loving family in remembrance of the great man he was. Everybody dies, but not everybody really lives. Danny was a prime example of someone who lived life to its fullest. He was a very uncommon "common man," one who will always be remembered for his endless wit and great love for his family. A master carpenter, Danny was always there to help those in misfortune or need, and the fine craftsmanship from his extraordinary generosity still stands in countless homes and structures around Tri-Cities. The wage for his work was usually just the personal joy of doing something for someone in need who could never repay him. Danny was born on June 4, 1947, in Omaha, NE, to Arlie Debs Headley and Naomi Fern Headley. He moved with his family to California in 1953, and went on to attend Aviation High School in Redondo Beach. From 1966-69, Danny served in the U.S. Navy aboard the "Ageless Warrior" (USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier) and on the tank landing ship USS Litchfield County. Throughout his life, he was an extremely proud Veteran and a vigorous American patriot. He moved to Tri-Cities in 1973. Danny was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Margaret (Anne), Lloyd, Joyce, and Ivan. He is survived by his loving wife Susan; his siblings Leonard, Carol, and "brother" (Joyce's son) Steve Carter; his daughter Lupe Cavillo (and husband Dominic) in Bakersfield, CA; his son Daniel ("Buck"), Buck's wife Kelly, and their daughter Reese (plus another baby on the way!), in La Grande, OR; his son Jason, Jason's wife Lee, and their son Shaylor, in Malo, WA; Danny's and Susan's exuberant dogs Jonnie and Carson; and a multitude of in-laws, cousins, nephews and nieces, and their descendants too numerous to list here. Danny was a hearty sports enthusiast, and a big fan of the Cowboys, Dodgers and Lakers. He loved to golf, and throughout his life played many sports and also coached women's softball and kids' sports teams. Danny enjoyed raising his boys in a sports-oriented world and teaching them how to excel in athletics. A star athlete in his own mind, Danny would kiddingly remind his sons that they would never quite be the great athlete he had been, and entertained them with endless stories of his past sports triumphs ... some of which may actually have been true. Above all, Danny loved life. He was a huge family man who loved animals and doted on his children and grandkids. His favorite endearment was "Meathead" (a throwback to Michael Stivic and the famed 1970s sitcom) -- if he called you Meathead, you knew he loved you. There will be no service per Danny's wishes. The family asks that people who care to are asked to contribute in his memory to the veterans/military charity of their choice , to honor his military service and his lifelong love of this country. Good Friday took Danny from us long before we were ready to let him go. It is said that to live in the hearts we leave behind is not to die, and we know this is true because we feel him with us everywhere we go. He lives on because we will never stop loving him. From knowing him, we can see that the goal is not to live forever, but rather to create something that will. We are grateful he lived his life that way. Danny's song may be ended, but his melody is still playing loud and clear in the minds of all of us whom he left behind.
