Obituary

Col. Carl Andrew Mansperger, 77 of Pasco, Washington, died peacefully in his sleep at home after a long illness. Carl was born July 9, 1932, to Carl and Margaret Cummings Mansperger of Ellensburg, Washington. He attended school in Kittitas, earned a Bachelors degree in Agriculture Engineering from Washington State University in 1955, and a Masters degree from the University of Illinois in 1965. He married Doris Mae Church of Ellensburg, April 5, 1955. He was commissioned in the U.S. Air Force in 1955, retired in 1985 after serving tours in Europe, Vietnam, Alaska and Iran. He received numerous awards including Legion of Merit with 4 OLC, Air Medal with 4 OLC, Air Force Commendation Medal, Viet Nam Service Medal with 4 OLC and various others. Carl joined Northrop Aviation and worked in logistics and as an Engineering Manager for Flight Avionics on the B-2 Stealth Bomber. After leaving Northrop in 1997 Carl and Doris retired to a farm near Pasco, Washington where he grew alfalfa. Survivors include his wife Doris, sons Steven Mary of Tacoma, WA and Mark of Richland, WA; daughters Deborah Merritt Roger of Roseville, CA and Cathy Bunge Bob of Bowie, MD; brother John Marlene of Carmichael, CA; sisters Loraine Snell of Olympia, WA and Lois Mansperger Don of Issaquah, WA; 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl was a member of Franklin County Farm Bureau, the Military Officers Association of America, and various other organizations. He was a generous man with his family and loved to be adventurous and productive with his days. Service will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 2:00pm, at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union Street, Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
