Clois Tolbert was born in Carbon Hill, Alabama to William R. Tolbert and Henrietta (Townley) Tolbert on September 5, 1926. She passed away at the Chaplaincy's Hospice House in Kennewick, Washington on August 24, 2019. She left this earth and ran into the open arms of the Lord and Savior she loved. She was a life-long faithful servant of God. Clois and her sister Martha moved to Pasco, Washington in 1943 when their father came to work at the Hanford Site. Clois married Earl Kenneth Richwine in Pasco on January 9, 1944, and they had 4 children before his sudden passing in 1972 – Ron (1944), Larry (1946), Susie (1956) and Lisa (1965). Throughout the years, Clois kept herself busy with her home, her church, her family and an assortment of jobs. She picked grapes, babysat children, served samples of Liberty Orchards confections during the holidays, and volunteered at voter polling stations and the Golden Age Food Share. She also served as a substitute cafeteria worker for the Pasco School District before accepting a permanent position in the kitchen of Mark Twain Elementary – a position she held for more than a decade. She loved to work in the yard and tend her gardens, southern gospel music, yard sales, animals and breaking news. She got cable so she could watch the O.J. trial and after that, she was never satisfied with network TV again. She believed things should bloom where they were planted whether she planted them herself, or a squirrel or bird did. She kept bird feeders and hanging plants on her clothesline posts and one year a bird planted a sunflower seed in one of the hanging pots. By the time summer was over the sunflower was 5 feet off the ground and had grown an additional 6-8 feet! Another year one of her grape vines wound itself around the dogwood tree and kept growing until it made it onto her rooftop. She thought it was hilarious! The girls she raised could never duplicate her goulash, divinity or milk chocolate rocky road fudge you could eat with a spoon out of her buttered cornflower Corning ware dish. One of her proudest moments occurred shortly before her final illness. She took in a scrawny stray cat, named her Betty Lou, and acted as midwife in the birth of Betty's 4 kittens. Clois is survived by her two daughters, Susan (Chuck) Watkins, Brownsville, OR and Lisa Richwine of Kennewick, WA. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, special niece, Cleta Conner and numerous nieces and nephews throughout the country, many of whom considered her their favorite auntie. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband - Kenneth, sons - Kenneth Ronald Richwine and Larry Lee Richwine, sister - Sarah Marthalene Miller and brother - W.R. Tolbert. Visitation will be held at Muellers Greenlee Funeral Home, 1608 W. Court Street, Pasco, on Thursday, August 29, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2019, at Pasco Church of the Nazarene where she had been a member since the 1940s. The church's address is 7305 W. Court Street. A time of fellowship with the family will be held prior to the service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the church. All are welcome. Burial will be at City View Cemetery in Pasco following the service. Clois was passionate about missions and animals. Donations may be made to the Missions Fund at Pasco Nazarene and/or the Tri-Cities Animal Shelter in Pasco.
