Obituary

Charles Brown, longtime Kennewick resident, passed away suddenly while out jogging on January 14, 2010. Charlie was an adventurer. He loved running, biking, sailing, skiing, and hiking. He was also a highly respected engineer and had a passion for boat building. Charlie settled in Kennewick in the mid 1970's after graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering from Cooper Union in New York City and receiving his Master's Degree from the University of Washington in Seattle. Charlie started his family with his first wife, Jo Ann Lindberg of Pasco. Jo Ann's untimely death in 1991 left Charlie a single parent to their two children, Ian Brown and Katherine Brown. Ian Brown currently resides in Seattle and Katherine Brown and her daughter Kenley Ann Ramey currently reside in Tacoma. Charlie is also survived by his mother, Grace Brown of Kennewick; his sister and brother-in-law Grace and Tom Bloomfield of Derry, N.H.; his sister and brother-in-law Janice and Tom Moerschel of Spokane. At the time of his death, Charlie was engaged to be married to Elizabeth A. Howland of Bellevue, WA. Charlie and Liz loved to hike, jog, sail, travel, and share time with friends. Professionally, Charlie held engineering positions in the Tri-Cities with Exxon, Siemens, and Areva. He also had worked for Boeing in Seattle and Westinghouse in Pittsburgh, PA. At the time of his death, he was about to retire to begin a new chapter of his life with Liz and complete the building of his dream sailboat, a 32-foot trimaran. Memorial service is Thursday, January 21, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Memories at Sunset Event Center by Einan's Funeral Home, 915 By Pass Highway, Richland, WA.
