Charles Basil Mathis

Charles Basil Mathis, 75, passed away on January 17, 2024. He was born May 1, 1948 to Lena Belle and Basil Mathis in Hood River, Oregon. Charlie earned his GED while serving in the Army. He married Kathleen Ann Bliss in Reno, Nevada on July 22, 1967. Charlie and Kathy started their family and life together in Southern California, but his work as a heavy-duty mechanic took them all over the country. He worked on the subway system in Washington DC, in mines in Kentucky, Colorado, and Nevada, and eventually took a permanent job at Hanford in the early 1980's. Charlie retired from Hanford in 2012. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys and NASCAR and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, and camping. Charlie was a proud member of the Elk's Lodge for over 40 years. His patriotic and charitable work with the Elks was very important to him. In his later years, Charlie took up square dancing and became dedicated to the friendships and entertainment he found there. He spent his days enjoying his great grandchildren and watching them grow. Charlie is survived by his daughters Sherry Perrine & Mike and Lisa Wise. Grandsons TC Hangartner & Chasity and Joey Hangartner & Holley. Great grandsons Carson & Braxton Hangartner and Oliver & Jasper Folger. Great granddaughter Rilyn Hangartner. Sisters Verna Hochart & John and Sheila Guilbert & John. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents Lena Belle and Basil Mathis, wife Kathleen Ann Mathis, and son-in-law Bill Wise. Memorial contributions can be made to Tri-Cities Elks Lodge #2755. The funeral service will be Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 1:00pm at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
