Catharina Josephine DeVries Glissmeyer, age 96, passed away in Kennewick on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. She was born July 14, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Herman DeVries and Francina Catharina Neerings. After four years of courting, she married Robert Henry Glissmeyer on June 14, 1939 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They enjoyed 60 years of marriage. After their marriage, they moved to Washington, DC where Robert worked for the U. S. Department of Agriculture. They did a stint of reserve duty building an air base in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Robert was called to active duty on December 8, 1942 and was assigned to the Pentagon for the duration. The couple had their first child, Sharon, in 1943. After the war they moved to San Leandro, California, where their son, John, was born in 1950. Josephine enjoyed working for JC Penney. She resided in San Leandro for fifty-two years and was active in the LDS church there. She and her husband moved to Kennewick in 1998. Josephine is survived by her brother Robert Carolyn DeVries of Salt Lake City, son John Allison Glissmeyer, grandchildren: David Ashley Glissmeyer of Parker, CO, Cathy Josh Hurst of Kennewick, Matt Carrie Glissmeyer of Spokane, and eight great-grandchildren: Kaeli, Christian, Rebekah, Kylee, Brooklyn, Adalyn, Conner, Tate and one on the way. Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert, her sisters Marian Schofield and Francina Harrison, and her daughter Sharon Kiefer. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 515 S. Union, Kennewick, with a viewing prior to the service. Interment will follow at Desert Lawn Memorial Park.
