Obituary

Carolyn was born December 22, 1920 in Gilbert, Minnesota, the fifth child of Mary and Mathew Krompotich. She passed away on December 2, 2012. The family left Minnesota and moved to Grand Haven, Michigan, when she was a young child. She spent her early years on the family farm in Grand Haven. She always said those were some of the best years of her life. During the war, she met her future husband Spencer Jilek and after the war they were married in Spokane, WA on November 26, 1946. In 1948 they bought the Crescent Drug Store which was located on the corner of Fourth and Lewis Street in Pasco. After operating the store for several years, a second store was built on Sylvester Street and a third on the corner of 20th and Court Street in Pasco. A fourth store opened in Kennewick shortly thereafter. They also operated the Crest Hallmark Card Shops in the Tri-Cities. After Spencer's death in 1991 she sold the Hallmark Card Shops to her son Patrick who operates them to this day. Carolyn is survived by her son Dr. Spencer Jilek and wife Jane of Pasco, daughter Mary Jilek of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and son Patrick and wife Doreen of Kennewick. She leaves behind seven grandchildren who she loved dearly, Candice and Christopher Hill, Mary Ellen and David Jilek, and Colin, Hannah and Tyler Jilek as well as two great grandchildren Rian and Trent Hill. She was proceeded in death by her beloved husband Spencer, her parents Mary and Mathew Krompotich, sisters Ann Flenker, Lutz, Florida; Mildred Neff, Pasco; Mary Porto of Ormond Beach, Florida and brothers Carl Kromp of Tampa, Florida; Lester Krompotich of Gaylord, Michigan and Dr. Michael Kromp of Spring Lake, Michigan. Carolyn was a much loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed and always in our thoughts. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be Thursday, December 6th at 6 p.m. at Muellers Funeral Home, 1608 W. Court St., Pasco, WA. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church in Pasco at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 7th. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Joseph's School, 901 N. 4th, Kennewick; Tri-Cities Prep High School, 9612 St. Thomas Drive, Pasco; or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org.
