Carol J. Avery, 73, of Grandview, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away of cancer on October 27, 2014 in Richland. Born to the late John L. Stolp and June L. Sheldon in Devils Lake, ND on May 31, 1941; Carol's mother passed away while Carol was still in her youth. Her father remarried to Luella Miles in October 1959 where Carol became part of a family with 7 siblings plus two more born later. Carol graduated from Eisenhower High School class of 1959 in Yakima. She attended Brigham Young University before meeting and marrying Raymond A. Turner, also of Yakima, December 1961 in Idaho Falls, ID. Carol and Ray had five absolutely adorable children together before divorcing in 1980. Then Carol added another stunning daughter to the family when marrying Gary F. Avery of Bellevue, WA, in January 1987. Carol had a number of talents that she shared often. She was musically inclined, incredibly creative, organized, loved teaching children to learn, and even spoke a smidgen of French. She was an extraordinarily energetic grandmother who found reasons to celebrate and make each and every grandchild feel special. She bridged families and cousins together with pictures and games even when geographically spread across both coasts of the country. One of the highlights of her later years was the opportunity to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (the Mormon Church) in South Korea with her husband Gary. She learned new skills, made special friends while in Korea, and helped organize various activities of many other young men and women serving with the same purpose, to share the gospel of Jesus Christ. Carol is survived by her husband, Gary F. Avery; children Judi Westover, Pam Sargent (Jay), Bobbi Lee (Jonathan), Ron Turner (Danielle), Rich Turner (Andrea), and Melora Rouse (Keith); siblings Diane Funderburk, Irene Gunderson, Mark Stolp, Paulla Woodworth, Sandra Thornock, and Tamara Stolp; Carol is also survived by 22 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 11:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 1835 Highland Dr., Prosser, WA where family and friends may attend a viewing from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima upon arrival of the funeral procession.
