Obituary

Carl Edward Wilder, age 90, passed away November 2, 2009 at 5:15pm. Carl was born in Rosehill, Virginia on October 22, 1919 to Jane & Frank Wilder. He grew up working in the coal mines of Kentucky from the age of 7. Though times were hard he found many things to laugh about and enjoyed sharing these things with his family and friends. After the leaving the hills of Kentucky he worked at many jobs including general labor, welding in the shipyards, pilebucking, and finally as a carpenter in construction where he joined the union and made it his life?s work. Carl met and married the love of his life, Bernice Virginia Haar, in Portland, Oregon on November 29, 1945. They spent 61 wonderful years together before Bernice passed away on October 21, 2006. They had four children during their life together and gave them each a beautiful example of love and respect for each other. He was truly proud of all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren teaching them his own strong sense of work ethics and love of God. He was always there to help if he could, to offer a word of encouragement, and advice gained through years of experience. Never turning away from things that were hard or quitting before the work was done, Carl lived his life as a man whose word was his bond. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice, his parents, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by Karlene Richard Nordness, Kathy Paul Elgin, John Nickie Wilder and Betty Joe Graham; 12 grandchildren: Kristin Josh Patty, Matthew Letti Nordness, George Shelly Elgin, Stacia Shawn Linhoff, Chad Kim Elgin, Joyce Virginia Halsey Wilder, Patricia Diane Wilder, Nicholas Horsepool, Frankie Jane Wilder, McKenzie Graham, Caleb Sarah Graham and Skye Mike Saenz; 21 great grandchildren: Blake, Rebecca, Kendra, Luca, Jeremie, Donovan, James Jeffrey, Ashley, Shai, Kaelyn, Taylor, Kylie, Cydney, McKlaine, Andrew, Colton, Caden, Emma, Joshua, Nicholas, Antonio, and Adrianna; and two great-grandchildren Samantha Heart and Tristan James. Funeral Services will be Saturday, November 7, 2009, 11:00am, at Columbia Community Church, 150 Gage Blvd, Richland.
