Obituary

Carl LeCompte, a beloved brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, at the age of 73. Born in Seattle, Washington, on September 15, 1951, to Dr. Ivan LeCompte and his wife Clare, Carl was the second of five children. He spent his early years in the Pacific Northwest before setting out to carve a path of his own in the world.

Carl's academic journey was marked by a deep love for engineering. He graduated from Whitman College with a degree in Civil Engineering before going on to earn a master's degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from Columbia University. He honed his passion for engineering by returning home to the Tri-Cities and securing a job at the Hanford nuclear site in the early 1980s, where he contributed to the critical work being done at the site.

In the years that followed, Carl's professional life flourished. He founded LeCompte Engineering when he relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where he built a reputation as a skilled and reliable engineer. In 2009, Carl returned to Kennewick, Washington, and once again took on a pivotal role at the Hanford Tank Farms, where he continued to impact his field with his intelligence, experience, and unparalleled work ethic.

Carl was not only known for his sharp mind but also for his vibrant personality. He was a jokester, witty and full of charm. His family, friends, and colleagues loved him for his confident demeanor and for the laughter he brought into every room. Carl had a knack for making any gathering more fun—whether it was designing unique party activities for family events or sharing his extensive knowledge during trivia games. He loved spending time with his family, especially at gatherings where his infectious sense of humor and playful spirit shone through.

Outside of work, Carl had many hobbies that brought him joy. He loved bowling, fishing, and woodworking—creating beautiful pieces that often found their way into the homes of loved ones.

Carl is survived by his siblings: Susan Stacey, Ralph LeCompte, Thomas LeCompte, and Sarah LeCompte; as well as his nieces and nephews: Elizabeth LeCompte, Emily LeCompte, John-Paul LeCompte, Michael LeCompte, Alex Erwin, Mary LeCompte, Alexis Stacey, Hannah Ward, Sarah Stacey, Peter Stacey, Alaina LeCompte, and Olivia LeCompte. He is also survived by his close friend, Jeanette and former wife, Bonnie Ford.

Carl's life was a testament to his intelligence, his humor, and his unwavering love for those he held dear. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who had the privilege to know him.

A private family memorial will be held to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carl's name to a charity of choice.
