Carl F Billings Bud, born January 28, 1923 in Morrill, Kansas to George and Marie Billings. Carl passed away March 6, 2010 with his family by his side. He was raised in the depression years and life had many challenges. Carl moved to Twin Falls, Idaho with his brother Harold in 1938. The family moved several times and Carl attended Box Elder High School, in Brigham City, Utah his senior year. Prior to graduation he left school for the military. He served in the US Army 182nd Airborne Division. He served in the South Pacific and was with the first troops to land in Japan as the peace treaty was signed aboard the USS Missouri. One of the highlights of his life was his high school diploma issued in 2001 from Box Elder High School. Carl returned to Twin Falls, Idaho and met Phyllis Rettinghouse on his birthday. It was love at first sight. They married June 14, 1947. They were blessed with three children, Frances, David and James. Carl was in the trucking business and a long time member of the Teamsters, he loved being behind the wheel. The family relocated to the Tri-Cities in 1957, he retired from LW Vail when the business was sold. He is survived by sons James Susan G. Billings of Pasco and David M. Billings Partner Carol of Portland; grandsons, Matthew, Nicholas and Patrick Billings of Pasco, Karl Billings of Portland, and Tom Nivens of South Carolina; Honorary grandchildren, Casie and Lynsey McCoskey of Kennewick, Austin and Kendall Upton of Seattle, Michael Clark of Virginia, Sara Clark of Eugene, Oregon, Eric Tammy Diaz of Orem, Utah, Steven Shayla Diaz of Cheney, WA, and Jeremy Diaz of Pasco; 3 great grandchildren, Malachi, Julianne and Alexandria; sister-in-laws, Joan Marks, Nita Rettinghouse and Pat Rettinghouse, and numerous nieces and nephews. Carl is also survived by his companion and loving partner, Patricia Clark, and Annie, his four legged special friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Billings; his daughter, Francis Nivens; son-in-law, William Nivens; his brother, Harold Billings; brother-in-law, Donald Rettinghouse; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lilly husband Robert; brother-in-law, George Rettinghouse; and his brother-in-law Lee Pryor. The memorial service will be held Saturday, March 13, 2010 at 11:00am at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home, 1401 S. Union, in Kennewick.
