Calvary Thacker, 87, of Pasco, Washington, went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 13, 2011. Cal was born to Joe and Mandy Thacker in Kentucky on November 20, 1923. At the age of 20, Calvary joined the 752nd Army Battalion where he served in field artillery, fought in WWII, stormed the beaches of Normandy, was a medic, and a golden gloves boxer. He received the Earne Theater Ribbon W/4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct medal, and a Victory medal for WWII. He attended Pikeville and Barberville Colleges in Kentucky. Cal met his loving wife Ava in college and it was love at first sight. On May 22, 1948 Cal and Ava were married and their son Larry Calvin was born on May 23, 1949. They were the only two teachers who taught in a two room school house in Rockhouse, Kentucky. They taught 101 children from grades one through eight and organized the PTA to drill a well. In 1952 Cal and Ava moved to the Tri-Cities where Cal worked at Hanford for 35 years. He was a true outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, gardening, and traveling 50 US states, other countries. He was preceded in death by his son Larry Thacker and brother Paul Don. Calvary is survived by his faithful wife of 63 years Ava; daughter-in-law Sheila Thacker; grandchildren, Shandelle James Maddux, and Ryan Sheniece Thacker; great grandchildren, Trevor, Autumn, Ashley, and Dylan; siblings, Christina, Gusta, Barbara, Faye, Hazel, Nellie Ruth, and Joe Jr.; sister-in-law Ruth; brother-in-laws Clarence and Thurman; nephew Forest and niece Jane.
