Obituary

Bob Alan Caldwell died on May 18, 2013 in Yakima, Washington, where he lived for the past nine years. He was born to parents James and Platinum Caldwell and older sister Elizabeth in Spokane, Washington on January 29, 1926. Bob graduated from Spokane's West Valley High School in 1943 and served in the United States Army Air Corps from January 1944 to October 1945. Afterward, with assistance from the G.I. Bill, he attended Washington State College, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and graduated in 1949 with an engineering degree. His career led him to a variety of locations, beginning with Brazil, New York, and Oregon, where he met his wife Darlene Beckley in The Dalles. They married on May 10, 1958, and later moved on to California, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Texas, and Washington. Along the way, they bore and raised three children, Cheryl, James, and Patricia. Bob enjoyed story writing, square dancing, round dancing, international ballroom dancing, and competitive bridge. He was also a member of Toastmasters. He was a loving husband and father. His wife, Darlene, preceded him in death on May 27, 2004. Bob is survived by his children and their spouses: Cheryl and Craig Whittlesey, James and Marlo Caldwell, Patricia Caldwell and Jay Kerutis. He is also survived by his five grandchildren: Caitlyn Caldwell; Shaina, Michael, David, and Daniel Whittlesey. Bob's memorial service was held at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick, Washington on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. A great thank you to all the staff at Highgate Assisted Living for their kindness, thoughtfulness, and care throughout the last two years of Bob's life. Luke 1:47 My spirit rejoices in God my Savior.
