Bill Duane Christensen was born March 12, 1930 on the Ward Farm south of Ashby, Nebraska. Since kitchen scales only went to 12 pounds and he buried the needle, he officially weighed 13 pounds. He worked hard as a boy cutting vegetables, picking fruit and driving tractors. Bill's family moved to Kennewick in 1943 where he attended Kennewick High School, and after which he joined the United States Postal Service. He delivered mail on city and rural routes in Kennewick and Pasco until he retired in 1985 as a member of the National Safety Council's US Postal Service Million Mile Club. Retirement was not agreeable for Bill, and he subbed for his comrades on Star Routes for several more years. Eventually Bill settled into retirement with his loving wife Elaine and their pugs. He was a wonderful friend of dogs, and even provided a friendly service of watching others' dogs while they worked so that no dog would be lonely. Bill never met a stranger and was known to have a magic trick or two up his sleeve as well as a deck of magic cards. Bill loved lunch at Taco Bell, and could often be seen at the Highway 395 Taco Bell in Kennewick with one of his pugs. He was a creature of habit, and would faithfully have coffee every morning with his daughter Sherri. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Elaine Parrott Christensen; his sons: Bill of Lakewood, WA and Darren of Kennewick, WA; his daughter: Sherri John Scheer of Kennewick; two grandsons: Jason Molly Scheer and James Debbie Scheer and three great-grandchildren: Madeline, Meredith and Michael of the Tri-Cities; two sisters: Irene Ellison of Kennewick and Linda Jim Hurlburt of Vallejo, CA; and many nieces and nephews. Bill is also survived by his first wife, Betty Brooks Braun of Kennewick, WA; and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Agnes Boots Christensen, his sister Marge Schroeder, his brother Kenneth Christensen, and his nephew Ed Holden. Bill passed away with his family by his side. Also present were his devoted pugs. We miss you already Husband, Father, Grandpa, Papa, and Friend. It will be hard seeing your empty recliner.
