Betty Ann
Phillips
May 25, 1933 — Nov 5, 2023
Betty Ann Becker was born on May 25th, 1933, in Gowanda, New York. She was the only child of Lloyd Devillo Becker and Mariana Brown Becker to survive infancy. She grew up on a farm in Collins Center, New York. She graduated from high school at 16 as valedictorian of her class. Her mother died in 1950, shortly after Betty's high school graduation. She stayed on the farm to help her father until he died in 1959. She attended La Sierra University for one year. Her roommate, Lucy, started writing to her uncle Bill saying, "My roommate would be the best aunt." Her letters worked. Betty married Williard "Bill" Phillips on March 34, 1962.
Bill and Betty spent most of their married life in the mid-West, ending up in Nebraska. In the early 1990s, they moved to the Tri-Cities, Washington. Bill died in 1996, after 34 years of marriage. In her retirement, Betty developed a new devotional method which brought her joy and peace. She copied the Bible word for word. She did this for six years, copying the Bible multiple times. She also knit hundreds of mittens for Pasco, children. Betty passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2023, cared for by her son and grandson in Richland, WA. She was 90 years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Melodie Williams, her son, David Phillips, and her grandchildren, Elizabeth, and AJ (Jeb) Selby.
