Betty Marion Dunn Manuel passed away September 27, 2014 in Kennewick, Washington. Betty was born November 27, 1925 at the Sweet Grass Ranch in Sweet Grass County, Montana. Her grandmother assisted in her birth. She was the second daughter of Lawrence and Helen Dunn. She attended grade school and 3 years of high school in Harlowton, Montana. Her parents moved to Bozeman her senior year where she graduated from Gallatin County High School in 1943. She proudly served as a USO volunteer during WWII, sang at the local movie theatre during intermission and performed with an Irish dancing group. In 1944 she married Donald Edens whom she later divorced. She went to work at Associated Seeds. In 1946 she met the love of her life, James Manuel, who was attending college at Montana State. They were married November 9, 1947 in the Methodist Church in Bozeman. They moved to Fairfield, Montana where Jim had a farm on the Fairfield Bench. They moved to Washington State in 1950. She worked many years for the county A.S.C.S. in Pasco until she retired. Betty was always interested in family history. She and Jim took an extensive trip from Washington State to Washington D.C., making many stops along the way, including Illinois, where they looked up distant relatives and family gravesites. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her infant son, Michael Edens, her parents, and two sisters, Joyce and Shirley. She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Larry) Moore of Kennewick, Sheryl (Ed) Moore of Grand Coulee, Susan (Jeff) Crowe of Coeur D'Alene, and Sally (Ron) Quandt, of Spokane Valley; sisters Blanche Nielsen of Bozeman, MT, Norma (Steve) Vermeulen of Richland, her brothers James (Eileen) Dunn of Battleground, and Joe (Teri) Dunn of Pasco; 13 much loved grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Betty was noted for her cooking, especially her custard pies and the jams and jellies she supplied to all her relatives and friends, including the little cafe on Main Street in Benton City. She was an ardent and active member of the Democratic Party, and will always be remembered in our hearts for her love of God, family, Country, music, literature, travel, high heels, red lipstick, good food, family gatherings and love of laughter. Her daughters wish to express their heartfelt thanks to Betty's sister Blanche Nielsen for her contribution to the writing of this obituary and to her sister and brother in-law, Norma and Steve Vermeulen, for the many years of loving support. Our gratitude is also extended to Fleur de Lis for the years of tender care provided by them and their staff. A celebration of Betty's life will be held Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 11 a.m., at Mueller's Tri-Cities Funeral Home in Kennewick. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Shriners Hospital for Children or the USO.
