Obituary

Betty Drucilla Woods Leithead passed away on the morning of July 9, 2025, 83 days shy of turning 99 years young. She was born on September 30, 1926, in Rochester, New York, the third child and first and only daughter to Earl Andrew and Helen Majorie Getzler Woods.

Betty grew up in the east and her family moved many times. She graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Caldwell, New Jersey in 1944. Betty married Raymond Butt that same year before he left for boot camp. Kathy Ellen joined their family on October 26, 1945, followed by Richard Garner on November 2, 1946. Linda Jean was born November 27, 1950.

Betty continued to move around and eventually ended up in Tucson, Arizona. It was there that she was introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She loved the gospel and served in many capacities. Teaching the kids Primary or the women in Relief Society were her favorites. She also served a Family History Mission in Salt Lake City, Utah.

A few months after being baptized, she packed all she owned and headed to Billings, Montana with the 3 kids. Shortly after arriving, she married Andrew Leithead. Andy adopted her three children and over the next 12 years they had 3 more children, John Earl in November 1959, Carl Ben in 1964, and Kimberly in April 1968.

Betty was a hard worker and was always able to find a job whenever she needed one. In December 1981, Betty moved to Pasco, Washington with her youngest daughter, Kimberly, to be near Kathy and her family. She began working at a bridal shop, eventually opening her own business doing alterations and making bridal clothing.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Jack and Robert, son Carl Ben, daughter Linda Jean Gourley, and son-in-law Ferris Naef.
