Betty M. Harter passed away at her home on Wednesday, January 10, 2007. She was surrounded by her family and assisted by Hospice. Betty?s parents traveled West from Minnesota/Wisconsin area to homestead north of Pasco. Where they hand dug the first well in Franklin County. Betty was born in Yakima on June 22, 1926, one of seven children. She graduated from Pasco High School in 1944. She began work in the legal profession at 17, and worked as a legal secretary for over 30 years. In 1976, she went to work at Hanford until her retirement in the early 1990?s. Betty enjoyed her retirement in numerous endeavors. She was a member of the Franklin County Historical Society, Master Gardeners, and the Clothing and Textile Advisors. She was a marvelous seamstress and took great pleasure in advising young seamstresses, as well as judging at local events. She was instrumental in founding a program for paralegals at Columbia Basin College. When not busy cooking, sewing, or tending her garden, she enjoyed feeding her quail brood. She is preceded in death by her parents, Mae and Leslie Foster; brothers Lane and Loren Foster; sisters Neva Lindsay and Margaret Yost; and her husband Ted Harter. She is survived by her sister Ruth Lowell Rogers; her brother Leslie Fenton Anne Foster; longtime and devoted companion Frank Wida; daughters Marie Gary Gray, Janice Hawkins, and Linda Jim Atkins; sons James Kathy Harter, Dan Virginia Harter, Wayne Sandra Rowe Harter; grandchildren Jennifer Sean Pena, Tim Christine Harter, Lynsey Hawkins, David Hawkins, Jordan Hendler, Jensen Hendler and Julie Harter; and Four Great Grandchildren.
